This apartment in a restored building had a complicated backstory – part of the house is old, and part is a new extension. Its location in a historic district and the beautiful view of a seventeenth-century church from the living room window prompted us to develop the theme of old Moscow in the interior. We decided to recreate the probable history of the house, combining classic and contemporary.
We studied the historical revenue houses in this area in search of a potential model for our design layout. Thus, the walls coinciding with the original floor plan were executed in a nineteenth-century style with plaster cornices and high skirting; the other walls were made with panels and concealed skirting. We placed a functional unit in the centre of the apartment with two bathrooms and a kitchen with metal facades, an antique fireplace was installed in the living room.
